Obituary of Percy D. Mims

Percy Duncan Mims, 72, of Jamestown, NY, passed away on July 5, 2010 after a brief battle with cancer. A long time resident of Jamestown, he was born February 3, 1938 in Bryan, TX, the son of the late Percy James and Margaret Duncan Mims. He graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from Texas A & M University as a proud member of the class of 1960 and was the second wing commander in the Corps of Cadets. Percy proudly served his country as a 1st lieutenant in the US Air Force. He later received his MBA from Northwestern University. He was the owner and President of Conewango Products Corp in Randolph, NY until his recent retirement and was an active member of St Luke's Episcopal Church in Jamestown. His children were the pride and joy of his life. He delighted in their accomplishments and traveled extensively with each of them, both separately and together. His family and friends were also the focus of his love and considerable attention. He is survived by his sons Patrick Duncan Mims and Grant Henley Mims, his daughter Margaret Sullivan Mims, his brother Larry Grant Mims (Mollie) of Cleburne, TX, his sister Nancy Mims Lowe (Douglas) of Havertown, PA, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Percy enjoyed hosting family and friends at Aggie football games and functions with the Corps of Cadets. He also enjoyed skiing, traveling and drinking coffee on his front porch. He made friends wherever he went and was the glue that kept his circle of friends close throughout his lifetime. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved nothing more than a single malt scotch or a glass of wine and a lively discussion with his friends and family. He will be greatly missed. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Eric M. Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. A scholarship has been established in Percy's name.
