Duke and I wish we could be there for the family. Denny was more then a friend to Duke he was a brother! Denny was a "True Champion" and when it came to coaching the kids in baseball he excelled. His love for the kids gave them a boost, to know they could not only win on the field but in life. Denny you will be sadly missed by more people then everyone could imagine. You hold a special place in many hearts, God Bless!

Uncle Denny,
You have been a good MAN to me and my family. I what to tell you that I would not be where I am today if you did not show me how to put into something what you expect to get out of it. And every time I play the American game called baseball I will call upon your spirit.

The thing that I liked most about Denny was the fact that he was a real person. If you ask fifty people who knew him to describe him. They would all desrcibe the same guy. No being one guy with one person and another guy with someone else. He was himself no matter who he was with. Here is a poem I wrote for him that is based on this.
I was
who I appeared to be
I wore a gray sweatshirt
Or a white cutoff tee
If I didn't like you
I'd let you know
If you wernt welcome
I'd tell you to go
If the job needed done
I would stay and work
If you crossed me
I could be a jerk
If your kids loved baseball
I'd teach them the game
If your girlfriend left you
It could of been me to blame
My favorite color was green
For more then one reason
The flowers would bloom
during my favorite season
My boys
were the world to me
They showed me everything
that a dad could dream to see
My wife
was my heart and soul
I know it killed her
that I had to go
She hears me talk
When she's alone
Her dreams
Will be our new telephone
I promise to call her
everyday
I'll do my best
to take away her pain
It will all
be ok
We'll be together
again
someday
When we meet again
you will remember me
Because I was,
I am.
And I always will be
Who I appear to be

Denny was my coach on the City Rec baseball team, The Yankees. I have never played before and he was very nice to me, always helping me when I went up to bat and would always tell me "come on, you can do it". I liked that. He was funny and always wore the same white shirt and shorts! He had really long hair! I will miss him, he was always helping me bat and when I didn't know when to run to the next base. That was nice too. I will miss you a whole bunch, Denny,
Love,
Katie (Amy) Starks
