Obituary of Dennis W. Gane

Dennis W. "Denny" Gane, 59, of 2095 Southwestern Drive Lakewood, died at 8:11 p.m. Saturday (August 14, 2010) in WCA Hospital, surrounded by his friends and family. He was born March 8, 1951 in Dunkirk, NY the son of the late Clarence William and Winifred Jean Scott Gane. Denny was a 1969 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School where he played defensive end on their football team. Following high school, he was drafted into the US Army, serving in Vietnam. While there, he was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries received in a land mine explosion, and was honorably discharged in 1977. When his boys were born, they became the most important part of his life. He was a volunteer coach for their City Rec Yankees baseball team, continuing even after they grew up because of his love for children. He coached the Jamestown Yankees up until 2010 for a total 17 years. They enjoyed bike rides together, and loved camping too. He played flag football in the area for 20 years, and he enjoyed cooking, making his own wine, Rock and Roll music, Indian Spiritual music, the Discovery and History channels. He was a fan of NASCAR, the Buffalo Bills, and Buffalo Sabres. He also loved nature, feeding the birds, animals, and nature photography. Denny was maintenance supervisor for the Maguire Group in Mayville. Earlier, he worked for United States Roofing and was co owner and operator of B & G Home Repairs for many years. He will be sadly missed by his many, many friends and family. Surviving are his wife, Bobetta "Bobbie" Colwell Gane; two sons, Dennis W. "DJ" Gane Jr. and Marcus K. Gane, their mother Carrie Sortore, all of Jamestown; five step sons, Joseph L. Snyder of Fredonia; Jeremy J. (Carrie) Snyder of Atlanta, GA; Bradley J. Vilella of Jamestown; Matthew G. Snyder of Atlanta; Daniel R. (Sisi) Lucariello of Dunkirk; a sister, Darla J. (Don) Haddock of Fort Myers, FL; two brothers, Jerry C. Gane, Kevin R. Gane, both of New Port Richey, FL; a cousin/(brother), Brad Gane of Sinclairville; his best friend, Terry (Amy) Fenno of Jamestown; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews, and his faithful Rottweiler, Robbie. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his uncle, George "Stub" Gane. Friends and family will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind funeral home. A service of remembrance with full military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Immediately following the service Wednesday, a celebration of Denny's life will be held in the Amvets Club dining room, 364 Fluvanna Ave Jamestown, NY (next to Arby's).
