Obituary of Maria E. White
Maria E. White, 52, of New York City, died on Monday, September 06, 2010 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. She was born November 25, 1957 in Dunkirk, NY, a daughter of Bernard and Elizabeth Colwell White.
Throughout her life, Maria was proud to be a graduate of Saints Peter & Paul Elementary School and a member of the Jamestown High School Class of 1975. Maria was a distinguished graduate of the College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, New York. She majored in French Language and Literature, German Language and Literature, and International Studies. During her college years, she was also active outside the classroom, serving as the academic secretary to the College Board.
Professionally, Maria had a career in international human resources that took her to locales around the world. She worked at several corporations including Deutsche Bank, G.E. Capital, and Dow Chemical. Most recently, Maria held the position of Deputy Director General, Global Corporate Management & Strategic Structure for CIP, an international scientific research organization addressing the issue of world hunger through the development of high yield food crops.
A seasoned traveler, Maria toured six continents. She was always especially fond of Paris, France: the historic sites, the pastries, and shopping at Au Printemps.
Maria was preceded in death by her sister, Kathleen M. White. She is survived by her parents of Bradford, PA, and several cousins. She also leaves behind many devoted friends, especially Thomas J. Andolora of New York City, Tuyen Kim Nguyen of Houston, TX, Christine Dieu-Lien NguyenTang of Irvine CA, and Juliana Manno Wessell of Binghamton, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon on Saturday at Holy Apostles Parish, Ss. Peter & Paul Church. Fr. Theodore Cassidy, cousin of the deceased, will be celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 8:00 p.m. led by Fr. Cassidy.
