Obituary of George T. Gill

George T. Gill, age 88, died Saturday, October 9, 2010, at the Lutheran Retirement Home and Rehabilitation Center. He resided at 29 Fairfax Road for over 50 years and later on Roland Road in Jamestown. George was born October 2, 1922, in Jamestown, NY, to Arthur William and Esther Holm Gill. He was a lifelong resident of Jamestown. He was united in marriage to Shirley Marguerite Dahl on May 22, 1942. To this marriage were born five children: Thomas G., Timothy J., Terry A., Pamela J., and Arthur B. " Butch" Gill. George was a 1940 graduate of Jamestown High School. He served in the US Army Air Force in the Pacific during World War II. After returning home, he went to work at Jamestown Metal Corp. where he retired as a draftsman in 1990 after 44 years with the company. George was an avid golfer in his retirement years. He enjoyed long rides on his BMW motorcycle with friends in the 1970's and 1980's. He was preceded in death by two of his children, Pamela Jean Gill in 1951 and Arthur Barry "Butch" Gill in 1976. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Shirley M. Gill. In addition he is survived by three sons: Thomas G. Gill of Round Rock, TX, Timothy J. Gill of Milton, VT, and Terry A. Gill of Colorado Springs, CO. He has six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. His sister, Dorothy Morgan, resides in Moreno Valley, CA. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Christ Chapel of the Lutheran Retirement Home. Rev. Kevin Costner will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
