Obituary of Aldino A. DiMaio

Aldino A. "Al" DiMaio, 83, of 3 Gilberds St. in Jamestown, died at 6:30 p.m. Thursday (November 18, 2010) at the Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Falconer, NY on September 3, 1927, a son of the late Alexander and Nina DiCarlo DiMaio. Al was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the Military Police from 1945 until 1946, and later the National Guard until 1953. A furniture maker, he had been employed by Monitor Furniture, Jamestown Royal Furniture Co. and retired as a finisher from Crawford Furniture in 1985. In earlier years, together with his late brother Guido, he owned and operated a service station at the corner of 8th and Main Streets in Jamestown. He was a member of Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter & Paul Church and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, Elks, Herman Kent Post #777 and Lakewood Memorial Post #1286 American Legions, and the War Vets. Al loved building furniture and had made many pieces for family. Throughout his life he worked tirelessly for his family and home. He was a great visionary who could look at any project and always see the finished product. Al also had a true appreciation for beautiful, well-kept vehicles, thus could be found quite often cruising through the local new/used car lots or in his garage detailing his personal cars. Surviving are his wife, Marie Bennice DiMaio, whom he married September 29, 1951; a daughter, Deborah A. (Stephen) Szwejbka and son, Dean A. DiMaio, both of Jamestown; grandson Matthew (Vanessa) Szwejbka of Clay, NY; and a brother, Roland DiMaio of Jamestown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Guido DiMaio; and five sisters, Christine Beals, Josephine Zach, Elene Minchener, Hilda Mountain and Delores Boutelle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter & Paul Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende will be celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 3:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W.
