Obituary of Joyce E. Erickson
Joyce E. Erickson, 83, formerly of 127 Pennsylvania Ave., Jamestown, NY, went home to be with her Lord December 10, 2010 at Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility, Gerry, NY. She was born October 30, 1927 to Eskil and Esther Johnson Swanson in Jamestown, NY and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1946.
She is survived by her husband, S. Larry Erickson whom she married March 1, 1947, two daughters, Marilyn (Daniel) Beckstrom of Pittsburgh, PA and Shirley (Daniel) Swenson of Jamestown, NY. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Rev. Kristin (Michael) Beckstrom Widrich of Charleston, SC, Daniel (Rebecca) Beckstrom of Weyers Cave, VA, Rev. Michael (Rachel) Beckstrom of Pittsburgh, PA, Erica Swenson of Nashville, TN and John Swenson of Jamestown, NY. She is also survived by one great grandson, Josiah Beckstrom of Weyers Cave, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Reynold Swanson, infant sister Dorothy Mae Swanson, and infant grandson Eric Daniel Swenson.
Joyce was a meticulous homemaker, great cook and enjoyed gardening, especially herbs. She loved to entertain family, friends and visiting pastors in their home. In her younger years she worked as a bookkeeper at Chadakoin Motors and Frank B. Smith Motors. She also worked 19 years in the stationary department at Bigelow's Department Store and 2 years as Dr. Bambrah's receptionist. Her "highest calling" was always to be a wonderful wife and mother.
She was confirmed and married at First Lutheran Church, Jamestown, NY. She was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and presently of Lakewood Baptist Church.
The funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm Monday December 13, 2010 in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel W. Cook, pastor of Lakewood Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm Sunday and for one hour prior to the service Monday in the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Lakewood Baptist Church or Heritage Ministries.
