Obituary of Nina S. Palermo
Nina S. Palermo, 83, of 4700 Route 380, Jamestown, died Monday December 13, 2010, in WCA Hospital.
A Jamestown native, she was born August 14, 1927, to Thomas and Rose Scalise Paolillo.
She was a 1945 graduate of Jamestown High School.
She was employed by the former Jamestown General Hospital as a unit secretary for 20 years. Along with her husband, she owned and operated Catering by Christie and Christie's Restaurant from 1966-2007.
She was a communicant of Holy Apostle's Parish St John Catholic Church. For the last year, she volunteered as a Foster Grandparent at Fletcher Elementary School and also at the Mayville Library.
Surviving are her husband Christy Palermo, Sr., whom she married April 19, 1947; five children, Marie (Dan) Moomey of Sun City, CA, Michael (Cosie) Palermo, Sr., of Jamestown, Kathleen (Ron) DeSantis of Jamestown, Christy (Kathleen) Palermo of Myrtle Beach, SC and Nina (Alan) Gustafson, Sr., of Jamestown; fourteen grandchildren, Michael (Tammy) Palermo, Jr., and Andrew (Amy) Palermo both of Painesville, OH, Kristi (Brent) Cook and Kelly (Stephen) Lopez, both of San Marcos, CA, Daniel Moomey and Joshua Moomey, both of Sun City, CA, Melissa (Jason) Wells of Bowie, MD, Andrea DeSantis of Washington, DC, Mary (Starr) Ryder of Jamestown, Philip DeSantis of Chapel Hill, NC, Angelina Snyder of Myrtle Beach, SC, Jason Palermo of Fort Mill, SC, Alan (Nicole) Gustafson, Jr. of Bath, NY and Kristopher Gustafson of Jamestown; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Grace Comella and June (William) Gullotti, both of Jamestown, and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Holy Apostles Parish St. John Catholic Church. Rev. Dennis W. Mende will be celebrant.
Friends will be received this Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be led by Rev. John L. Kuhlmann at 3:45 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation's Karl Peterson Fund for the Foster Grandparent Program.
