Obituary of Oscar Svensen
Oscar Svensen, 89, of 2453 Mill Run Blvd., Kisimmee, FL, died Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Dibert Home in West Ellicott where he had resided for several weeks.
He was born July 28, 1921 in Cando, ND, a son of the late Nels and Helene Halse Svensen.
He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and a survivor of Pearl Harbor. He later served again during the Korean War.
Mr. Svensen worked for many years as an inspector for the Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad.
A member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Assoc., he had also been active in the Masonic Order in both Erie, Pa. and Florida, as well as the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Lucille Hershelman Svensen whom he married December 7, 1946; a daughter, Carol Svensen of Jamestown; two grandsons, Sheridan Smith and Alexander Smith, both of Jamestown; and a sister, Alice Balazs and three brothers, Norman, Charles and Gilbert Svensen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter Svensen and Alfred Anderson.
No funeral service or visitation will be observed. A private cemetery committal will be held in Girard, Pa. at the convenience of the family.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
