Obituary of John W. Barton

John W. Barton, Jr., 68, of 2964 Mitchell Rd. Jamestown, NY passed away unexpectedly at 4:56 a.m. Monday (January 3, 2011) in the emergency room of W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident he was born January 3, 1943 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late John W. and Louise B. Ferry Barton, Sr. He was a graduate of Jamestown High School and before his retirement due to health concerns was employed by Cummins Engine Company for eleven years. In previous years he was employed by the former Proto Tool Company for 25 years until its closing. While working at Proto Tool he was also the union representative for several years. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also loved to spend time hunting with family and friends. Surviving are his wife of 47 years the former Patricia Schmidt whom he married May 4, 1963, two sons John W. (Brenda) Barton, III of Gerry, NY, Richard S. (Lauren) Barton of Bradford, PA, a daughter Michelle L. (Bruce) Stearns of Lander, PA, six grandchildren John, Ali and Molly Barton all of Gerry, Kaitlin and Abbey Barton both of Bradford, PA, Jacob Stearns of Lander, PA, a sister Kathleen (Brian) Westerdahl of Celoron, a niece Kelly Westerdahl and a nephew Todd Westerdahl both of Jamestown. He was preceded in death by his father who died November 27, 2000 and his mother who died February 23, 2008. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dayle F. Keefer, pastor of the Fluvanna Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
