Obituary of Glenn E. Glasshagel
Glenn E. Glasshagel, 65, of 256 Hillcrest Ave. Lakewood, NY passed away at 2:55 a.m. Thursday (January 20, 2011) in W.C.A. Hospital following a brief and courageous battle against cancer.
A Jamestown area resident for the past three years, he was born August 2, 1945 in Germany a son of the late Lorenz A. and Ella Katherine Erboe Glasshagel.
Glenn was a graduate of Wheaton Community High School, Wheaton, IL and earned his degree in accounting from Southern Illinois University.
During his professional career, he was a Chief Financial Officer for several restaurant chains. Following his retirement he and his wife moved to the Jamestown area where he had been employed by Wal-Mart and currently at the Home Depot Store in Lakewood.
Throughout his life, Glenn lived in Illinois, California, Las Vegas, Florida and New York. He decided to settle down in Jamestown where his wife was from. He devoted his life to his wife and family. He found great pleasure in his career and was always doing things for other people. He also loved his two dogs "Scooter" and "Barney" as if they were his children. He enjoyed playing golf and watching football, especially his Chicago Bears.
He had been a member of the Epsilon Kappa Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois Society of Certified Public Accountants. He was also a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club.
Surviving are his loving wife the former Helen McBane whom he married March 19, 1999 in Las Vegas, NV, three son's Bryan (Jill) Glasshagel of TX, Kevin Glasshagel of California, Larry (Dawn) Phillips of Jamestown, two grandchildren Jack Glasshagel of TX and Destiny Phillips. Glenn was also a dear friend to Larry and Karen Ford, along with the rest of the Ford family, who were just like family and have welcomed him with open arms.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. Msgr. Joseph M. Dowdell, pastor of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Lakewood will officiate. Burial will be in the Fluvanna Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
