Bill touched my heart from the first week of my rotations; transporting patients with him. He was a wonderful man and caring person. I will forever be greatful for the many steps he saved all of us when he transported patients at the hospital. He is greatly missed.

Uncle Bill - While I haven't seen you in a long time I remember what a nice, fun uncle you were. When I needed a tennis racket in 7th grade you gave me your tennis racket. I used that racket all the way through school. Thank you. May God now hold you in his arms.

Bill was my neighbor for many years. He was a good man. He had a warm heart and loved helping people as he did at the hospital where he devoted so much of his time. He will be missed.

Great-uncle Bill was fiercely independent, but also quietly devoted. Many of my memories of him are connected to his volunteer service at the hospital. For example, my grandmother pointed him out to me once about 10 years ago down a hospital hallway, and we exchanged our first hellos. Since my grandfather (his brother) died much too young, I gradually started to make more contact with uncle Bill, and I recognized in him, for example, my grandfather's dry wit. In 2007 or so, my uncle sent me a newspaper clipping of Bill receiving an award for his volunteer service. We were proud. As I gradually got to know Bill and Rene, I recall how mad Bill was at himself for not recognizing the face of a family member at the hospital. Such is macular degeneration, but he made no excuses for himself. After Rene died, he mentioned that the volunteer job was "all I've got."
