It’s been ten years without you. We think of you often and miss you very much. Allen and I are 21 now and we were 11 the last time we saw you. You made us laugh and feel loved. I have only good memories of you. We all wish you were still here with us. Our family just isn’t the same without you. I love you Uncle Steve. Send me a yellow plane to look at in the sky once in a while.

Susan, we only met once while I was with my ex-husband, Joe Rowe. I am now a neighbor of yours and often pass your home and love calling and petting your horses on my walks.
Steve (Cheney) and I will miss waving up to Steve's plane flying over our fields to your landing strip.
From my small experience, Steve walked what he talked. Once when a worker of his was stranded nearby and knocked on my door and I readily trusted him based upon who he worked for and helped him, Steve stopped to thank me personally.
When my husband, Joe, who had suffered a massive stroke and paralysis fell on our stoop and broke his ribs, I called Steve simply to get advice on how to construct steps myself that would withstand frost heave. He sent a worker the next day who made us a safe entryway and would not even permit me to pay for the materials.
I am so sorry for your loss of a good man and I hope you don't mind me petting your horses as it brings joy.

I didn't know Steve well, but each time I saw him at the airport, I was impressed with his positive attitude and his sense of humor. I want to share a recent memory of him ~ I was at Brokenstraw Airport for an outdoor picnic with a bunch of Steve's colleagues in the flight community. As Steve came in for a landing in his CUB, one of his pilot friends said, "There flies the best damned pilot in this whole neck of the woods!" Several other pilots chimed in with, "You got that right!" Everyone smiled in agreement and Steve soon joined us with his usual upbeat presence and a funny remark. Steve is a kind man who knows how to treat people fairly. He will be greatly missed by his flying friends.
Fly safe, Steve!

Although I didn't know Steve very well, I was shocked and saddened to read his obituary this morning. I first met Steve when he visited my office a few years ago at the County Planning Dept. looking for assistance regarding his work with the Kiantone Planning Board. What a pleasant and gracious man that brightened my day. I was lucky enough to see and meet with him a few more times over the next couple of years and enjoyed our times together and the stories and smiles he shared. I hope he felt the same about our meetings.
