Obituary of Edna R. Farnsworth

Edna R. Farnsworth, 77, of 6 Freeman St. Lakewood, died Wednesday March 16, 2011 in UPMC Hamot Medical Center Erie, PA following a brief illness. She was born June 27, 1933 in Muskegon, MI the daughter of the late Edwin and Katherine Erickson Nelson. Edna was a 1951 graduate of the former Lakewood High School and was currently employed as a waitress at the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. In earlier years worked at the former Jenkins Dairy. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jamestown serving as a deacon, and the Lakewood Memorial Post 1286 American Legion Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Lakewood Fire Department Auxiliary. Edna was an avid sports fan, whether it was bowling for many years on various leagues, or being Southwestern Trojan Football's #1 fan. She enjoyed baking cookies for everyone and was known as the official cookie maker for the various sports teams. Her favorite times were those spent spoiling her grandchildren. Surviving are two daughters, Sandra (Ronald) Barker of Gerry; Marcia (Bruce) Bretz of Lakewood; five grandchildren, James, Megan, and Jordan Bretz; Nelson and Norman Barker; three brothers, Edwin Nelson Jr. of Ashville; Arkie Nelson of Lakewood; Robert Nelson of Russell, PA; three sisters, Dorothy Depas, Nina Depas both of Lakewood; Kitty Parker of Dewittville; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John N. Farnsworth who died May 31, 2009; and a brother Richard Nelson. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev Richard Young, pastor, and the Rev. Michael Childs, visitation pastor of First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Bentley Cemetery, Lakewood. The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Sunday in the funeral home.
