Obituary of Mary Alice Campbell
Mary Alice Campbell, 86, died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Heritage Village Rehab & Skilled Nursing.
She was born December 21, 1924 in Chancellor, SD, one of nine children of the late Ted Louis and Christina Otten Boom.
Mary Alice served in the US Army during WW II as a nurse in the 62nd WAC Hospital Company. It was during this time that she met and later married her husband, Calvin C. "Ike" Campbell on June 10, 1946. He preceded her in death on August 17, 1998 after 52 years of marriage.
A Jamestown resident since 1974 after living in the Midwest, she belonged to First Congregational United Church of Christ. She was a charter member of Women in the Military Service of America, life member of the Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and belonged to the Women's Army Corps Veterans Assoc. She was a life member of the Girl Scouts of America, first lifetime volunteer member of the Chautauqua County Retired Girl Scouts and belonged to the Chautauqua Area Girl Scout Volunteer Alumni, AARP, Lioness Club of Jamestown, Women of the Moose and Company 'E' 133rd Infantry Association of WW II.
Mary Alice loved garage sales, travel and especially time with her family.
Surviving are two sons, Bennie Campbell of Kansas City, MO and Kennie (Suzanne) Campbell of Jamestown; two daughters, Carol Lou Eisenhardt of Normal, IL and Carrie (Brian Bernhardt) Wolfgang of Jamestown; ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Boom of Hawaii and a sister, Agnes Folkerts and three brothers, Lyle, James and Gene Boom, all of Oregon.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Luella Payne and Betty Jane Folkerts and a brother, Edwin Boom.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald E. Ray will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Monday.
