Obituary of James R. Canon

James R. Canon, 89, of Hollywood, FL, formerly of Jamestown, died Thursday May 19, 2011 in his home. He was born February 23, 1922 in Cochranton, PA the son of Cassius and Arlie Peters Canon. Jim was a US Army Veteran of WWII and prior to retirement, was employed at AVM Corp. He was a member of the Fluvanna Fire Department; Lakewood Rod and Gun Club; War Vets; VFW; and was past commander of Ira Lou Spring Post #149 American Legion, serving in 1985. Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Margaret "Peg" Canon; three daughters, Carol Levin of Hollywood, FL; Karen Kaltenbaugh of Sandy Lake, PA; Joanne Hardy of Macon, GA; four stepchildren, William Close, Linda Smith, Kim Close, and Darla Close; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters. The funeral service will be held at 2 PM Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Minister Marshall Hills will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be in Fluvanna Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 PM Wednesday in the funeral home.
