Obituary of Mary Jane Grey

Mary Jane Grey, 86, of 55 City View Ave., died at 7:15 a.m. Friday (June 3, 2011) in her home following a courageous battle with cancer. She was the widow of John J. Grey whom she married August 8, 1942 and who died February 23, 1997. Mary Jane was born September 23, 1924 in Jamestown, a daughter of the late S. Edwin and Helga Lundine Peterson. In earlier years, she had been employed by the former Bigelow's Department Store and later retired as a secretary from the S.M. Flickinger Co. An avid bowler, she had also been an Avon salesperson for many years. Mary Jane was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities. Surviving are a daughter, Suzanne Newson of Saratoga Springs, NY and five sons, Bruce (Linda) Grey of Jamestown, Randy (Lynda) Grey of Frewsburg, Jim (Linda) Grey of Chardon, OH, Bob (Lisa) Grey of Vero Beach, FL and Brian Grey of Jamestown; 21 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Ellis of Lake Wales, FL. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Peterson and a sister, Corrine Van Vlack. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W.
