Obituary of Malcolm Peck Olmstead
Malcolm Peck "Mal" Olmstead, 84, formerly of 1084 Kiantone Road, died Saturday July 30, 2011 in Kingston at Dupont assisted living in Fort Wayne, IN.
He was born November 16, 1926 in Bloom Twp., Clearfield County, PA the son of Albert Edward and Sylva Ethelyn Hartzfeld Olmstead.
Mal was a 1945 graduate of DuBois Jr and Sr High School and studied Civil Engineering at Penn State University. He was a WWII veteran serving in the Army Air Corp.
From 1951 until 1978, Malcolm worked at Watson Mfg Co, and from 1979 until his retirement in 1993, worked at Jamestown Metal Corp. He was a former member of the Stillwater United Methodist Church, serving as head usher and financial secretary for many years retiring in 1998.
Mal loved to play with and entertain his own children and grandchildren when they were young. Children always brought a smile to his face, and cheered him up, even in his declining years. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His family was everything to him. He was quiet/reserved, happy, fun loving, with a great sense of humor. He possessed artist talent and enjoyed baseball. (Pittsburgh Pirate fan).
Surviving are a daughter, Joan M. (Lowell) Huber of Fort Wayne, IN; two sons, Robert (Arlene) Olmstead of Byron, NY; Gregory Olmstead of Gerry, NY; ten grandchildren, Quentin (Jessie) Olmstead of South Dayton, NY; Aaron (Colleen) Olmstead of Jamestown; Nathan (Allison) Olmstead serving in the military in Afghanistan; Kyle and Reed Olmstead of Byron; Karen (Jeff) Greene of Montgomery Village, MD; Laura (Mike) Yager of Lancaster, NY; Shelley (Edward) Sakocius of Colonia, NJ; Nathan and Esther Huber of Leo, IN; and seven great grandchildren, Conner and Olivia Olmstead; Wyatt Olmstead; Emmett Yager; Emeralynn Olmstead; Lorelei and Gregory Sakocius.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Clara Alice Lyons Olmstead whom he married March 26, 1951 and who died May 26, 2004; and a brother, Clarence Luther Olmstead.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church, Grampian, PA. Burial will follow in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home, 805 West 3rd St Jamestown, NY, and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday in the church.
