Obituary of Paul J. Nieder

Paul J. Nieder, 87, 118 Thayer Street, died Friday August 26, 2011, in WCA Hospital. He was born January 9, 1924, in Cattaraugus, NY, a son of the late Joseph and Anna Bates Nieder. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army serving from 1943-45. He participated in the invasion of Normandy and was also awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he sustained during his time in the service. Prior to his retirement in 1986, he was employed by the City of Jamestown in the waste water treatment plant. He was a member of Christ First United Methodist Church and Disabled American Veterans. Surviving are his wife Gloria Nieder, whom he married September 2, 1994, two children Pamela (Dennis) Weaver of Canton, GA and Joseph J. (Tracy) Nieder of Jamestown; three step sons Thad Schank of Charlotte, NC, Dennis (Linda) Schank of Alabama and Steven (Sharon) Schank of Jamestown; thirteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren, two sisters Ruth O'Brien of Ashville and Fran Brown of Tucson, AZ and two brothers Charles Nieder of Falconer and William Nieder of Jamestown. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Arlene Nieder, a sister Marie Cross and two brothers Donald and Gordon Nieder. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home where friends will be received for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Lake View Cemetery.
