Obituary of Donald J. Olson

Donald J. Olson, 82, of 232 Baker St Jamestown, died at 2:30 AM Monday (September 5, 2011) in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. He was born November 28, 1928 in Jamestown, the son of the late Ernest and Ava Smith Olson. Donald grew up in Lakewood and was valedictorian of his class at the former Lakewood High School. He worked at Marlin Rockwell Corporation for many years, then opened the Book Cellar on South Main St. He was also a professional writer, having published six novels and scores of short stories in the mystery-suspense field. Donald was a member of Mystery Writers of America and received several awards for his work. He enjoyed playing checkers, cards, woodworking, and gardening. He is survived by his sister in law, Dorothy Olson of Jamestown; and his nephew, David Olson of Falconer. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard E. Olson. The funeral service will be held at 2 PM Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald A. Haglund, Heritage Group Chaplain will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
