Obituary of Elsie J. Johnson

Elsie J. Johnson, 94, of Emeritus of Lakewood, formerly of 5th Street, Celoron and Chautauqua Colony Apartments, died Sunday October 2, 2011, in WCA Hospital. Coming to this area at the age of 16, she was born February 1, 1917, in Cleveland, OH, a daughter of the late Gustav and Anna Wentzel Roth. Her entire adult life she cared for children, whether by babysitting in her home or as a 10 year volunteer for Foster Grandparent Program. When she wasn't busy caring for others she enjoyed spending time playing bingo. Surviving are two children Barbara (Chrissy) Johnson of West Ellicott and Donald (Betsy) Johnson of Lakewood; thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and her extended family in Cleveland to whom she was especially close. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur R. Johnson, whom she married April 16, 1938 and who died June 7, 1969, four sons Timothy, Ronald, Paul and Bryan Johnson, an infant granddaughter Jennifer Johnson and two brothers Gustav and Ralph Roth. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Gerald A. Haglund will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday in the funeral home.
