Obituary of Florien C. Laughlin

Florien C. "Mona" Laughlin, 68, of 687 Guernsey Hollow Road in Frewsburg, passed away at 7:05 a.m. Wednesday (November 23, 2011) in her home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of James T. Laughlin whom she married May 20, 1983. Mona was born May 4, 1943 in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Olive Winblad Carlson. A graduate of Fredonia State College, she taught 2nd grade classes in Bemus Point for over 26 years, retiring in 1999. Mona touched many lives as both an educator and an honest and caring person who always saw the best in everyone. Her continual smile was an inspiration in itself to all who knew her. Mona also loved to travel, enjoyed watching football and was an avid NASCAR fan. In addition to her husband, surviving is a son, Richard S. McMasters of Apopka, FL, daughter, Jodi L. (Bryan) Clerkin of Syracuse, NY and grandson, Ethan P. Clerkin of Syracuse; three brothers, John Carlson of Tucson, AZ, David Carlson of Holly Springs, NC and Frederick Carlson of Horseheads, NY; and several nieces and nephews including Brett Carlson of Holly Springs, Jill Fredd of Westfield, NY, Melinda Crabtree of Frewsburg and Melissa Allmaier of Beaver Dams, NY. A Celebration of Life will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Frewsburg American Legion.
