Obituary of Jean Okesson Morrow Haglund
Jean Okesson Morrow Haglund, 64 of 135 Connecticut Avenue, Jamestown passed away in her home @ 5:00 a.m. on Friday, February 17 2012 into the everlasting arms of her Lord.
She was born November 8, 1947 in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Otto and Bertrice Richardson Okesson.
Jeannie was a 1965 graduate of Perry High School and a 1968 graduate of Aultman Hospital School of Nursing in Canton, Ohio. She also attended Asbury College.
From 1971-1973 Jeannie served as a nurse as a Captain in the United States Air Force.
Her 40 year nursing career saw work in multiple states primarily as an Emergency room nurse. Locally, she had been employed by Warren General Hospital, Warren State Hospital (psychiatric nurse) and the American Red Cross-Chautauqua county chapter. Most recently Jeannie worked as a traveling nurse and been in states including California, Kentucky and Maine. She enjoyed being a short term medical mission nurse serving in Haiti, Jamaica and Brazil with Allegheny Regional Mission.
She formerly assisted her husband in the ministry at Calvary Baptist Church where she loved teaching and caring for children. Jeannie was a member of the Clarks Corners Community Church, serving on the mission committee and VBS teacher. She loved to read, travel and was an avid quilter. Jeannie was very patriotic and was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America. She was passionate about all levels of football and college basketball. Her true joy has always been her family and doing God's work. She was also a former member of the Good News Community Church of Warren, PA.
All that knew Jeannie were blessed by her love, her joyful spirit and her faith-filled heart.
She is survived by her husband Rev. Gerald A. Haglund, whom she married April 8, 1988; her son, Major John Lucas (Melissa) Morrow of West Point, granddaughter Madison Grace Morrow and grandson Joshua Owen Morrow of West Point; a stepson, Gerald (Teresa) Haglund Jr. of Louisville, KY; three step-grandchildren, Ashley Baker, Kristina Haglund and Joseph Haglund; two step-great grandchildren, Serenity and Alexander Baker also of Louisville; two brothers, John (Janice) Okesson of Wheaton, IL and James Okesson of San Francisco, CA; a sister, Joan (Robert) Winter of Rotonda West, FL; many loving nieces and nephews and cousins; and her special in-laws, Everett and Betty Morrow of Glasgow, PA.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 21 at 11:00 a.m. in the Clarks Corners Community Church. Rev. Walter Venman, Rev. Dayle Keefer and Rev. Sam Shreffler will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
Jeannie's family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday in the Lind Funeral Home.
