Obituary of Leonard H. Carlson
Leonard H. Carlson, 93, of 762 Waterman Rd. Kennedy, NY passed away at 2:01 a.m. Sunday (February 19, 2012) in W.C. A. Hospital.
A lifelong area resident, he was born March 6, 1918 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late C. Simon and Engeborg Edborg Carlson.
He attended Jamestown Public Schools and was a graduate of DeForest Training in Chicago, IL which later became DeVry Technical Institute.
He was a member of the Jamestown Company E 174th Infantry Regiment New York Army National Guard when the unit was federalized and ordered to Fort Dix, New Jersey in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army from February 13, 1940 to September 9, 1945 where he received many medals including the Purple Heart. He also received a letter of thanks from the people of France for the part he played in the battles for the Liberation of France during World War II.
Leonard had been employed by the Marlin Rockwell Corporation and Sylvania Company in Buffalo and as a letter carrier for the Falconer Post Office from 1952 to 1977. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and was a lifetime member of the New Creation Assembly of God Church where he served on the Board of Deacons and was President and Secretary of the Men's Fellowship Group. He also loved playing his guitar for the Lord in the church music group.
He was a committed and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a faithful follower of his Lord Jesus Christ and was a sweet, humble, kind and generous person who never said a cross word in his life and everyone who ever met him loved him. His life was truly a living testimony of how a person should live.
He is survived by his only daughter, Brenda J. Hedman Stohl (Lee) with whom he made his home in Kennedy, five grandchildren Ben Hedman (Jamie) of Charlottesville, VA, Heidi Nocero (Matt) of Frewsburg,NY, Christy Stohl of Jamestown, NY, Katie Stohl, Kimberlee Stohl both of Kennedy, NY, four great grandchildren Jack and Jude Hedman of Charlottesville, Monica and Hailey Nocero of Frewsburg, and a sister Joanne Bullock of Jamestown, NY.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years the former Margaret Jeanette Naramore whom he married June 28, 1947 and who died February 19, 2005, two brothers Wallace and Walter Carlson and two sisters Dorothy Miller, Jeannine Lundsten.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. William Blair, pastor of New Creation Assembly of God Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
