Obituary of Richard E. Johnson
Richard E. Johnson, 91, formerly of 43 Wescott Street, died Friday May 4, 2012, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing.
He was a WWII veteran of the US Army serving with the 774 Tank Battalion from 1942-45.
Prior to his retirement he was employed as a meat cutter for Quality Markets and Bengston Grocery and owned the meat department of Mother and Son Superette. After retirement he worked in the kitchen of the Viking Lodge.
He was a member of Jamestown Moose Lodge and was a very active member of Ingjald Lodge #65 Independent Order of Viking having served in several leadership positions over many years.
He was a former member of Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and Ellery VFW.
He enjoyed time spent in the Viking Golf League and with his family. He was extremely proud of his Swedish heritage. He particularly enjoyed preparing Swedish food for Christmas time. He made korv every year that was served at the Viking Lodge.
Surviving are three children Richard E. (Sandy) Johnson of Warren, PA, Thomas A. (Vicki Maust) Johnson of Viera, FL and Rebecca C. (Randy) Bloomquist of Jamestown; nine grandchildren Mark Johnson of Las Vegas, NV, Michele Miranda, Nicholas Johnson and Nathan Johnson, all of Warren, PA, Kristy Johnson and Karissa Johnson, both of Pittsburgh, PA, Matthew Bloomquist and Jamie Bloomquist, both of Jamestown and Shannon Baglia of Falconer and 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife the former Joyce Bergren, whom he married June 14, 1947 and who died August 16, 1996.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Monday and for one hour prior to the service Tuesday in the funeral home. A Viking Lodge Memorial Service will be led at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
