Obituary of Ravanina Kanicki

Ravanina "Nonny" Kanicki, 90, of 2112 Swanson Road, died Saturday, May 26, 2012 at AbsolutCare in Westfield, NY. She was born February 16, 1922 in Sant' Egidio Monte Albino, Province of Salerno, Italy, a daughter of the late Antonio and Giovanna Del Giudice, and came to the United States in 1958 from Bradford, Yorkshire, England. She had been employed by the Southwestern Central School District, retiring from the housekeeping department. Ravanina, a devout Catholic, loved to pray and attend church. She enjoyed visiting with her family and friends, playing Bingo and the Lottery, reading Woman's World magazine and watching Gomer Pyle and I Love Lucy. She liked cooking Italian foods such as gnocchi, lasagna and chicken parmesan for her family, and baking cookies for her grandchildren. Surviving are a daughter, Maria (Robert) Johnson of Erie, PA; two sons, Bohdan (Young Suk) Kanicki and Stephen (Pam) Kanicki, both of Jamestown; nine grandchildren: Elizabeth, Matthew, Benjamin and Daniel Johnson, Bohdan Kanicki, Rachel (Luke) Farnham, Courtney Kilmer, and Stephen and Kyra Kanicki; and two great-grandchildren, Gianna Johnson and Matthew Johnson Jr. Also surviving are two sisters, Alfonsina Del Giudice and Perla Desiderio of Italy. In addition to her parents, Ravanina was preceded in death by her husband, Gregory Kanicki who died October 8, 2011 and siblings Ottavio Del Giudice, Liliana Del Giudice and Teresa Del Giudice. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Deacon Michael Lennon will officiate.
