Obituary of Dean A. DiMaio

Dean A. DiMaio, 58, a resident of the Resource Center's Foote Avenue Group Home since January of 2011, and formerly of 3 Gilberds Street, died at 10:10 p.m. Monday, August 6, 2012 in WCA Hospital. He was born October 9, 1953 in Jamestown, the son of Marie Bennice DiMaio and the late Aldino A. "Al" DiMaio. Dean had formerly worked at the Fluvanna Dayhab Program on various painting projects. His many loves included wearing shorts (year around), cruising through car lots with his Dad, riding his 4 wheel bicycle, the outdoors, mowing the lawn and Italian food. Additionally, he relaxed by watching old sitcoms on TV and playing records. Some of the personal traits for which Dean will always be remembered include his love of people, from complete strangers to beloved family and friends. He could often be seen sitting in his favorite rocking chair on the front porch greeting anyone who happened to be passing by. He also possessed a strong work ethic, always asking, "Work today honey?" and being proud of the work he did; he thrived on the praise of others. Finally, Dean had a generous heart. He enjoyed giving personal items to friends and family, most recently art projects he created at Dayhab. Dean's family is truly grateful for all of the support that the Resource Center has given Dean throughout the years. In addition to his mother of Jamestown, Dean is survived his sister, Deborah A. (Stephen) Szwejbka of Jamestown and a nephew, Matthew (Vanessa) Szwejbka of Clay, NY. He was preceded in death by his father who died November 18, 2010. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter & Paul Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende will be celebrant. Burial will be Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. Dean's family suggests memorials be made to The Resource Center, 200 Dunham Ave., Jamestown, NY 14701.
