Obituary of Norman E. Newhouse
Norman E. Newhouse, 83, of the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of 326 Delaware Ave. Jamestown, died Friday in WCA Hospital.
He was born July 13, 1929 in Buffalo, NY the son of the late Julian and Elizabeth Eberle Newhouse.
Norman was a US Army veteran, serving in Korea. He had worked at JM Newhouse Distributors, and retired from Arthur R. Gren Co. as Sales Manager.
He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Flying Aces radio control airplane club, and the antique car club of Jamestown. Norman enjoyed camping, motorcycles, and was captain of "Post Time" which was docked at Holiday Harbor Marina. While living at the Lutheran Home, he was known as the "Mayor of LSS".
Surviving is his wife, Marion S. Newhouse with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary October 23, 2012; three daughters, Nancy E. Newhouse of Palm Beach, FL and Jamestown; Barbara A. Newhouse of Atlanta, GA; Mary K. (Jeff) Halpainy of Rochester, NY; two grandchildren, Marc and Kristin Halpainy, both of Rochester; two brothers, Donald (Betty) Newhouse of Punta Gorda, FL; Raymond (Donna) Newhouse of Cape Coral, FL; his other two "kids", Ronald Bull of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Pamela Lodestro of Jamestown; a sister in law, Dorothy Dobbins of Stockton; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday October 28 in Christ Chapel at the Lutheran Home, 715 Falconer St. Jamestown. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, chaplain, will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the Lutheran Home.
The family would like to thank all present and former staff and friends at Lutheran Social Services for their care and kindness shown to the "Mayor", and also to the staff on 5D at WCA Hospital.
