Obituary of Emily S. Warner

Emily "Mema" Siguler Warner Emily Siguler Warner, age 99, of Lakewood, NY, passed away on January 18, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Kenneth C. Warner, whom she married October 19, 1942 in Jamestown, and died June 6, 1965. A lifelong area resident, she was born November 28, 1913 in Jamestown, the daughter of John F. Siguler and Waytey Cooper Siguler. She attended Jamestown High School, and was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school classes in her earlier years. Emily joined the Girl Scout Program in 1944, and was leader of the Brownie through Senior Troops for many years. She was also president of the Girl Scout Leaders Club, chairman of the Ashville, Busti, Celeron, and Lakewood Girl Scouts, and was active in the Archive Club. In 1949, she was awarded lifetime membership in the Lakewood School PTA. She was past-president of the Lakewood-Busti Golden Agers, serving on several committees since 1979. She was a member of the United Senior Council, Lakewood American Legion Auxiliary #1286, AARP Jamestown Chapter 334, and The Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She received the Gold Star pin from the United States Presidents Volunteer Service Award. Mrs. Warner had been employed for many years at the former National Worsted Mills as recording clerk, and later employed by Quality Markets for 29-years, retiring in 1978. Emily enjoyed her flower garden and knitting hundreds of beautiful hats and mittens for the needy children of our area. She will be remembered for the love and kindness she showed others, and most especially, her family and friends. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving daughter, MaryEllen Windoft, and her husband, Byron L. Windoft, of Lakewood, NY. She is survived by one step-daughter, Virginia Card of Celoron, NY; three grandsons, Dr. James M. Scarpino (Valerie), David J. Scarpino, and Thomas C. Scarpino, all of Jamestown, NY; and six great-grandchildren, Lisa Marie, Julie Anne, Laurie Elise, Holly Elin, Morgan Leigh, and Madison Nicole Scarpino, all of the Jamestown area. Also surviving are seven step-grandchildren, Celeste (Dana) Bolles, Betsy Johnson, Kellie (David) Bargar, Maryann (Robert ) Whitney, Thomas (Andrea) Windoft, Michael (Melissa) Windoft, and Casey (Amy) Windoft; and fourteen step-great-grandchildren, Whitney and Jeffrey Bolles, Apryl Jackson Troutman, Gregory Jackson, Nathaniel, Kristen, and William Bargar, Todd Whitney, Benjamin and Brock Windoft, Sara and Christofer Windoft, and Emily and Carter Windoft. Mema, as Emily was affectionately known, was an exceptional role model who left an indelible mark on her family. She would also wish to thank her caregivers, Susan Coffaro, and the Hospice team for her care. The funeral will be held 6:30 p.m. Saturday, January 26th, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Violet Davidson, pastor of the Lakewood United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill cemetery. Friends will be received from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service at the Lind Funeral Home.
