Obituary of Etta G. Cornell

Etta G. Cornell, 93, formerly of Magnolia Road, Mayville and Dunedin, Fla., died at 1:47 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Heritage Village Rehab & Skilled Nursing. She was born July 30, 1919 in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Andrew M. and Esther Ericson Gunnarson, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1937. Etta had been employed in early years by the former Lockwood Sporting Goods Store, for six years in the office of Dr. Bert Rappole, and the office of Dr. John Voltmann from 1970 until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of First Covenant Church and formerly belonged to the Fluvanna Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary and Vikings Lodge. She is survived by a daughter, Susan C. Ayers of Frederick, MD and a grandson, Andrew C. Ayers of San Francisco, CA. Etta was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Cornell, whom she married November 6, 1943 and who died July 3, 2012; a sister, Corinne Davis in 2003 and a brother, A. Martin Gunnarson in 1987; and an infant brother. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 24th in the Lind Funeral Home. David B. Larson will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Friday. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
