Obituary of Philip Mastrosimone
Philip Mastrosimone, 79, of 398 Camp St., passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born October 18, 1934 in Marianopolie, Sicily, a son of the late Cataldo and Maria DiMarco Mastrosimone.
He came to America in October of 1950 with strength and perseverance to succeed, and the love of his life, Suzanna Cochran whom he married in 1960, he did just that. Philip's wife and children will be forever proud of his accomplishments. He was a very strong man who worked hard manual labor his entire life as the owner of Mastrosimone Construction. The days were never long enough for him to complete his duties. Those who knew him best would say he never knew when to quit working and rest. He made a beautiful home in Jamestown for his wife and children. As a home builder, he built homes in Jamestown and in the state of Florida. His family will forever remember his words of wisdom, "push up your sleeves and get to work", "never give up", and "take care of family, they always come first".
Philip had a passion for antique cars. He spent many years collecting and restoring antique cars, attending car shows, and was a member of the Chautauqua Lake Antique Car Club. He served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1959, and was a member and communicant of St. James Church.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Mastrosimone; three daughters, Mary Grace (Ralph) Gese of East Aurora, NY, Susan (Seth) Fiorenzo of Ashville, NY, Angela Mastrosimone of Jamestown and a son, Philip (Rose) Mastrosimone, Jr. of Ladylake, FL; and six grandchildren, Gabriel Mastrosimone of Jamestown, Ryan Gese and Mariah Gese, both of East Aurora, and Philip, Ryan and Mason Mastrosimone, all of Florida. Philip is also survived by two brothers, Sam and Vincent Mastrosimone, both of Rochester, NY; three sisters, Mary Panzica and Josephine LaRusch, both of Jamestown, and Jean Roberts of Columbus, OH; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Mastrosimone.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in St. James Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy will be celebrant. Entombment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 6:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St James Church, 27 Allen St., the Lutheran Social Services Foundation, Chapel Fund, 715 Falconer St., or to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd., all Jamestown, NY 14701.
