This was my father, where was he for us throughout the years? Also he never met his grandson that I sent him pictures of on multiple attempts to reach out. But Merry Christmas in Heaven! It’s such a shame that things happened the way they did!

We will miss seeing Pete around the Legion and talking with him about our 'shows' Chicago Fire and Chicago PD- always looked forward to that. He was always there to help with the kids' parties and all the Legion functions and we all greatly appreciated that. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Marylou and his family- Pete will be greatly missed.

Pete, I will have very fond memories of all our talks about your odd paid jobs but the one you loved the most was the unpaid firefighting. this was your calling from the Lord. He must have need a gentleman, dear friend, and most of all an individual with very high standards to help anyone no matter what, from a listening ear to a hug to just being there because they needed you. The good Lord always takes the good ones. Pete, you are the best at all you have done on earth and what you'll do in heaven. I'm going to miss yah guy. The guy whom had a sparkle in he's eyes. There's not enough space for all the times you made me feel good when I just needed a listening ear and a friend. I'm still in shock. I'll will miss you so much. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. You will always be in my heart.

I always enjoyed the talks we had and enjoyed hearing him call me "dear". It made me feel younger and made my heart sing. I remember worrying when he was doing the landscaping at the shop. It would be 90 degrees and he wouldn't take a break! Every time I look at my deck out the back window, I can still picture him painting it. That was no easy job! He holds a special place in my heart and I will always remember his kind, gentle ways. Pete, may you rest in peace.

Thank you so much for service Pete to your community. You were always ready to help no matter what. You made our Firefighter 1 class complete with your smile and encouragement. I'll never forget crawling through the burn building during class and I always knew everything was ok as soon as I could see your bright shoes. You will be greatly missed and I know you are looking down on all of us still ready to help.

When duty call's me, oh Lord,
Wherever Flames may rage,
Give me the strength to save some life
Whatever Be its age.
Help me embrace a little child
Before it is too late
Or save an older person from
The horror of that fate
Enable me to be alert,
and oh Lord, guide my every move,
for life is so precious,
please don't let us loose.
I want to fill my calling and
To give the best in me
To guard my every neighbor
And protect their property
And if according to thy will,
That I must give my life,
Then with thy protecting hand my Lord,
I pray thee, protect my children and my wife.
Amen

Mary Lou and David - I'm sharing your sorrow forever.
Pete: you are like one of my family; and a fixture in the Legion family; we counted on seeing you every day and will continue to do so. Safe journey home; I dreamed of red and green sneakers the night you left; keep answering those calls . . .
