It will soon be a year that my best friend has been gone. So often I want to call her and share something. Missed her presence all last summer in Lakewood. ...kayaking, shopping at Skillman's, sitting on the back porch. How special she was as she'd come flying into our house & decide we were going out. Rest in peace, dear friend. Shirley Sember Daly

Dear Bill and family, I was so sad to hear about the loss of Carol. I remember many times from our younger years, that Jerry and I would see her with her Mom and Dad, when we were all in Jamestown. Mostly wonderful times at their cottage on the lake. I also remember visiting you in Florida, and celebrating a law school achievement. It has been 18 years since Jerry went to heaven, but I hope he was there to say hello to a sweet, dear, little friend. Be Blessed, Sandy

Bill,
It was with much sorrow that we learned of Carol's passing. It has been many years since we've seen you both, but we have many fond memories of your visit with us in Sarasota and the years we had together in Lakewood. Carol was always so full of life and a joy to be around. Our thoughts are with you and your family at this sad time for you all.

Sorry to hear of Carol's passing. Mrs. Evans was a special part of life growing up in Western NY. Every x-mas I still think fondly of the hayride caroling and Chili at the Evans and the summers learning to water ski on the lake. Best wishes in this difficult time.

Bill & family, we are so saddened to hear the news. Carol has been such a positive and constructive influence throughout Jamestown and the Chautauqua Region. As is often the case with caring and compassionate individuals, many of Carol's contributions have gone unheralded - and that is as she would have it. Such is the mark of generous and charitable people. We pray that you will be blessed with a deep sense of God's presence throughout the days and weeks ahead - you do not journey this path alone. Our prayers are with you.

As Liz Lingenfelter in her thoughtful candle wrote, we struggle to find the right words to express our sympathy and sadness when someone special has left our midst and Carol Evans indeed was special: Generosity, wit, loyalty, charm, class, dignity, compassion, were among her many qualities. Because of my own struggle to find the right words, a passage by the poet Kahlil Gibran, in The Prophet, seems fitting:
What is it to die but to stand naked in the wind, and to melt into the sun?
And what is it to cease breathing but to free the breath from its restless tides that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered:
Only when you drink from the river of silence, shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountaintop, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then you shall truly dance.
Carol has drunk from the river of silence, she has reached the mountaintop, and the earth has claimed her limbs. I know the Evans clan is comforted in knowing that now she sings and dances. It is said that “The deeper sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.” Carol is the type of person who would want us to allow joy to fill the chasm that the sorrow of her passing has carved. From what those close to Carol have said, she died as she lived, with grace, dignity, and above all else, compassion. We should remember her with smiles and laughter and joy.

To the family and friends: I am so sorry for your loss. Miss Davis was my third grade teacher at Glidden Ave Elem. school. My Mother and I attended her wedding along with my best friend, Pam Olson, and her Mother. I still have such fond memories of that day and of my wonderful teacher. May God give you comfort and peace.

Dear Bill,
May I extend my deepest sympathy to you and your family. I wish I knew the things to say to help ease your sorrow, but it always seems that words fall short at difficult times like these. I hope you somehow feel my caring thoughts are near and if there's anything you need please know that I am here. Carol was such a delight and wonderful classmate to all who knew her. She will be sadly missed by us all. I am so glad you have wonderful memories of your life together. I pray God will keep you safe in his heart as you were a wonderful husband to her.
Love and Prayers,
