Obituary of Carol D. Evans
Carol D. Evans, 73, of 88 W. Summit Ave., Lakewood, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at WCA Hospital.
She was born April 2, 1940 in Jamestown, NY, the daughter of the late Lawrence A. and Evelyn M. Davis.
She was a graduate of Jamestown High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Syracuse University.
Carol was an elementary school teacher for several years in the Jamestown school system, as well as a substitute teacher in the Southwestern and Chautauqua school systems. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, where she served as Children's Music Director, and also served as the President of Creche and Treasurer of the Lakewood Community Development Corporation.
Carol loved the outdoors, boating on Chautauqua Lake and playing the piano. One of her favorite times of year was the family's annual "Hayride" Christmas party where she would play the "12 Days of Christmas" and guests would sing along. In the summer, family and friends often joked that she could control the weather since even the darkest skies would usually clear if she had an outdoor party planned. Her optimistic and loving spirit shined with a brightness beyond words.
She is survived by her husband, William A. Evans; two daughters, Elissa E. (Nathan) Herring of Pittsburgh, PA and Lauren M. Evans of Lakewood, NY; one son, William A. (Kristen) Evans III of Lakewood; and three grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Richard L. Davis.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Liz Simmons will officiate, assisted by The Rev. Msgr. Joseph Dowdell. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials be made to WCA Hospital, Palliative Care Dept., P.O. Box 840, Jamestown, NY 14702-0840.
