So sorry to hear the news. She was recently my mom's room mate at the Green and the short time I knew her I loved her. She had a spunky sassy attitude that always made my visits doubly fun. My thought and prayers are with the family- I had only met a few- just know that she will be very much missed.

I remember Jean growing up and her sister and younger brother Danny. Most of all I remember her mother, Mrs. Melquist is what we called her cause we respected her and to this day I remember her goulash at the N.Main school house. Our neighborhood has lost many good neighbors and Jean was one of them.

Jean Burt in my book was a very special lady. She was my favorite maid at the YWCA. Our days together started at the ole Open Bible Church when it began up on Sprague Street. Jean always had a smile on her face, and was great with everyone she met. She encouraged me continually. I have the peace within me that Jean today is in a much better place, and enjoying fellowship with her Savior and maker. My thoughts and prayers are with her entire family.

My darling Jean. That's what I called her whenever I saw her or called on the phone. Such a wonderful woman. She made a huge difference for me at a time when I didn't know how to continue. God Bless you, my darling Jean. You are missed by many.

“My Grandmother”
1929,
A Crash,
A Rise,
80 Years Later,
She Lives,
Crippled,
Strong Minded,
Strong Wiled,
My Grandmother
“Hurry up and graduate, so I can die” she tells me. After nearing 80 years old, I guess 79.98 years ago, my grandmother has lived her life at ease, at roughness, at the way life treats you. She has lived her life. “The lord gives us 70 years, I am over” she tells me, though Religion is not my taste, I understand what she means: she is ready to end her life, to move on and take whatever comes next. She has lived her life, raised 4 children, who spread to 11 grandchildren and continued to 10 great grandchildren she has fed the family wisely and a great deal. I am a grandchild, a Shofferr, a part of her recent past as she is part of my entire past.
We All Know,
A Woman,
That Complained,
About Her Hair,
And the Garbage,
And The House,
Who Was Never Satisfied,
We All Know,
Who She Is,
Don’t Have to Say Another Word,
Just This,
And We Know Who I’m Talking About,
Our Mother / Grandmother or Great Grandmother
Never, ever, could you tell my grandma she was wrong, because she wasn’t. She was perfect, just like you and me. She lived in the 30’s and 40’s, a time much different from now. There is no more parents that punish you by physical abuse, it is too rough says the law. There is not more no food for dinner if you get home later, that’s child abuse. And definitely not grounding, because the kids won’t listen anyways. The world is much different these days.
If There is One Thing You Taught Me,
One Thing Only,
It is to Live Your Life,
To Enjoy Your Life,
And Enjoy the Abilities You Have Now,
In Case You Loose Them Some Day,
Like You Lost Your Mobility
My Grandmother started by getting a cane, then a walker, now she roams the house with a weely chair, I hope that is a far as it goes. She didn’t renew her license this year, she lost that confidence after her feet couldn’t successfully hit the brakes, stop the car. Glad there was no accident, glad she is still around.

To Look Back,
To Decide If It Is Necessary,
Hit the Brake,
Sure It’s A Burden,
On The Family,
Could It Be Any Different,
That Any Other Disease?
Hit The Brake,
Old Age,
They Love You,
They Want to Get Away,

Faithfully there every Monday thru Friday, 4:30AM to 9:00AM, You’ll See Her There, At The Front Desk. She started as a maid, many years ago. She has been there a long time. People kidded, last year when it was the Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of The Y that you had been there from the beginning.
All The People At The Y,
Would Give Anything
To See You There In The Morning,
What Will They Do,
When You Leave,
When You Are Gone?
Will Life Go On?
It Must
Say it ain’t so, this woman, a lady of inspiration to all who meet her, she is nearing her end. To some of the family a relief, to others a scramble, to say goodbye, to say I’m sorry. I have no regrets, no sorrys, nothing to say that hasn’t been said or screamed already.
My Grandma,
Is a Special Grandma,
Your Mother,
And Your Great - Grandmother,
But She is All Ours,
Jean Burt

Aunt Jean and my grandma were very close sisters. They had a silly ritual of buying each other underwear for each other's birthday. My grandma would be embarrassed that I announced that via internet. I always loved seeing Aunt Jean drive in for a visit with Laurie in tow. She was dedicated to her job at the YMCA along with my grandma. Many fond memories of her sense of humor and kindness. RIP Aunt Jean.

I have so many wonderful memories of growing up at Aunt Jean's. I spent as much time or more at Aunt Jean's than I did at home. It was always a wonderful place to be. Aunt Jean was always there when I needed anything and did too many things for me to list. I will never forget her help and kindness all my life. She never said no! I know her blessings in Heaven will be many. I love you Aunt Jean - rest in peace until we are together again!
