Obituary of Jean Elizabeth Burt

Jean Elizabeth Melquist Burt, 85, formerly of 2578 Tompkins Road Jamestown, died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday (July 5, 2014) in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born May 26, 1929 in Jamestown the daughter of the late Emil and Anna McIntyre Melquist. For 42 years, Jean worked at the YMCA, retiring January 20, 2010. She also volunteered in Special Olympics with her daughter Laurie, and enjoyed Bingo and doing crafts. Surviving are her children, Lynette (Dan) Allen; Randall Burt; Laurie Burt; Jeffrey (M. Alison) Burt; all of Jamestown; 11 grandchildren, Robert Culpepper and Tobi Culpepper, both of Jamestown; Jeremy Culpepper of New Jersey; Nathan Powell, Angel Powell, and Raybecca Burt, all of Rome, NY; Christopher Burt, Nicholas Burt, Justin Burt, Rachel Burt, and Anna Jean Burt, all of Jamestown; 13 great grandchildren, Kaylee, Tobi, Cayden, Trey, Paris, Bradyn, Holden, Brooklyn, Alexis, Madalyn, Rob, Baylee, and Maeble; a brother, Dan (Diana) Melquist of Jamestown; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Menzo M. "Pete" Burt whom she married December 11, 1948 and who died January 23, 2000; a son, Jamie Lynn Burt who died June 26, 1973; and a sister, Barbara Joyce Carlson who died December 16, 2003. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Clyde Mohl will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, PO Box 56, Jamestown, NY 14702-0056.
