To Shirley's surviving siblings, Lyhle, Glen and Lewis--
Shirley, my own age, was the youngest of the 8 children of our dear Lander friends, the McIntyre family. Carl and Freeda provided a temporary haven for my beloved widowed grandmother, Virginia Loucks Bennett, after a 1932 fire left her and my dad, Charles, homeless. (Dad found refuge with the Hitchcocks.)
How much I enjoyed our many visits to their Old State Road farm and, in particular, our dear friend Allene, who was Grama Bennett's "hired girl."
I also remember how very shy the younger children were -- they'd always run and hide when we came, and gradually starting to come out of hiding.
My deepest sympathy to you on the loss of Shirley, with whom I used to converse on the phone when I was back home in Jamestown.
