Obituary of Alvin J. Heck
Alvin J. Heck, 86, of 3467 Bellview Rd. Bemus Point, NY, passed away peacefully at 8:55 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2014, in his home.
A Bemus Point resident for most of his life, he was born January 15, 1928 in Elgin, NE, a son of the late John M. and Bernadine Selting Heck.
Before his retirement he was a Supervisor for the National Fuel Gas Company where he worked for 33 years.
He was a communicant of St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bemus Point and was a former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council # 926, Jamestown.
As an avid sportsman, Al played several sports in his earlier years. He was also a strong supporter of Maple Grove High School Sports having attended many basketball and football games over the years. He was also a gifted woodworker and enjoyed spending time in his woodshop making special gifts for his family and friends and was also known as an excellent cook.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Virginia Simmons Heck whom he married May 22, 1948, two daughters, Joan (James) Perry of Aiken, SC, Jan Harrington of Jamestown, four grandchildren, Shane Perry of Aiken, SC, Lyndsie Cook, Jamie (Andrew) Hopko, Chad Harrington all of Mich., seven great grandchildren, Ty Perry, Sierra Perry, Delaney Cook, Carson Cook, Ava Hopko, Bailey Hopko, Ryker Harrington, a sister Marilyn (Dominic) Paulucci of Denver, CO and his constant companion, his dog Kasey, who was always by his side.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by twin sisters, Angela Hobza, Dorothy Watkins and a brother Floyd (Rusty) Heck.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bemus Point. The Rev. Todd Remick, pastor will be celebrant. Inurnment will be in the Fluvanna Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
