I hardly know where to begin. Marian (and Birger, and Anna and Nels)were my parent's best friends.I cannot separate them from one another in my memories. My childhood and young adult life memories are full of time spent with these loving and fun family friends. I remember going out Forest Avenue to Emma and Oscar's house to get raspberries and other goodies from their garden when I was little. I guess what I remember the most is how much fun these three couples had together and how much they laughed together. Of course the other memories involve the Salvation Army. They all did so much for the Salvation Army in so many different ways. Marion and Anna and my Mom were usually involved in cooking and Ladies's Aide...no surprise there! I remember my Dad and Birger being involved as treasurers (meeting on Monday nights to count the collection monies...handy men with almost everything (like the speaker system that was always giving us static) and just general care and cleaning of the building. There were also many fun times spent together AFTER Army services....coffee or Johnny's or Pace's! Outside the Salvation Army Marion and Anna and my Mom spent time working together. What a team they were in kitchens! At the end of a catering job or a dinner at the Marvin House, I would always find them laughing and getting silly over a cup of coffee together, even after hours of hard work and being on their feet. Birger and Nels and my Dad were usually involved in the lugging of food and supplies or running the dish washer!They even catered our wedding! I can picture them making melon balls out of watermelon and cantaloupe and honeydew, smiling through it all! We enjoyed many family picnics together and our families enjoyed the outdoors. Marion and Birger and Les spent time skiing with Denny when he was young. We always had THE BEST meals and desserts and cookies with Marion and Anna and my Mom doing the cooking! The three couples enjoyed camping together. One memory stands out in my mind. They went camping down at the Kinzua Dam area. You could only access the camp site by boat. I saw photos and heard about this...but was not there with them. The boat was so full of equipment and food and themselves that the water almost came up over the boat's edge. Next....the rains came down and the floods came up! Everyone and everything soggy or floating. To top it off....they woke up to see a raccoon at the water's edge washing a koldormar off in the water...rolling it back and forth between his paws as he dipped it in and out of the water. As expected....more laughter! Dear Marian....I remember that you always looked so perfectly dressed and put together and had such a lovely, tall thin body. Your hair always looked just so...and I can close my eyes and see you primping at it before going somewhere...gently tugging at the curls around your face. You were loving and kind and hard working and always there for your friends. I see you singing in the string band. In my mind's eye you were often in uniform....either a white kitchen one or a Salvation Army one. I remember you serving cool drinks on your side porch on Newland Avenue and picture the porch covered with ivy or some kind of leaves....keeping i shady out there. And now the three couples are reunited! More laughs...more coffee and baked goods to share! "When we all get to heaven" what a day of rejoicing indeed! What a wonderful life you have lived and what a wonderful example of true Christian living you have set for us all. How fortunate I was to be surrounded and encouraged and loved by you all! Thank you Marian for all that you did and all that you have been to so many.

Les and Nancy, I don't have to tell you what a very special person your Mom was and I sit here smiling thinking of all of the special deeds and pleasantries she bestowed on me as a child, a young adult and a grown up. Her service in the Army was especially wonderful to me as my Great Aunt & Uncle and my Grandmother Jennie was a member of the local army too. Your Mom and Dad were always so kind to them. Take solace in knowing the rich and fulfilling life she had and that she and your Dad are now receiving their just rewards with our Father in Heaven.

Please accept my thoughts and prayers for all of you ion the death of Marian. What a wonderful ,warm woman she was ! We wrote to each other while I was in Congo and in Chicago and visited when I came to Jamestown. She was a strong Christian woman who lived her faith daily. May you feel God's presence, peace and love as you grieve and heal Love, Mary Ann
