Obituary of Marian E. Halvarson

Marian E. Halvarson, 98, formerly of 917 Newland Avenue in Jamestown, passed away on December 24, 2014 in Bartlesville, OK. She was the widow of E. Birger Halvarson, who died January 25, 2008. She was born in Jamestown on January 28, 1916, a daughter of the late Oscar and Emma Holmquist Ahlgren. She was a faithful member of the Salvation Army where she led Sunday school was a member of the Ladies Aid, the League of Mercy and the Stringband. Marian worked for many years alongside her best friend, the late Edie Bush, in the kitchen at the Marvin Community House. She also worked as a custodian at the Salvation Army. She loved to travel with and cook for her husband and family.She also enjoyed celebrating her Swedish heritage. Her family and friends will remember her tremendous hospitality, love for others, quick wit, and most of all, her godly example. Surviving are her daughter, Nancy (Bert) Mattsson of Jamestown, her son, Leslie Halvarson of Yahk, B.C., 3 granddaughters, Kris (Rick) Sadok of Bartlesville, OK, Lynn (Waide) Royal of Lincoln, AR, Wendy Newton of Jamestown, 8 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Emma Ahlgren, a sister, Helen Anderson, and two brothers, Nels and Roger Ahlgren. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015 in the Lind Funeral Home. Retired Major Lester Bussey of The Salvation Army will officiate.
