Obituary of Herbert C. Larson
Herbert C. Larson, 84, of 165 Aldren Avenue, formerly of 26 Westwood Drive, passed away peacefully Wednesday June 3, 2015, in WCA Hospital, Jamestown NY.
He was born December 22, 1930, in Sinclairville NY, a son of the late Carl and Augusta Broman Larson.
He was a 1948 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School and attended University of Wisconsin in the banking school for audit and control.
He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Germany during the Korean War as a chaplain's assistant for 2 years.
Prior to his retirement in 1987, he worked in banking for 39 years and had been employed by Key Bank as vice president. Earlier, he worked for Bankers Trust of Jamestown and started his career with the Bank of Jamestown.
He loved music, especially classical, and was an accomplished musician. Herb served as organist at Park United Methodist Church, Sinclairville, for 50 years and Gerry United Methodist Church for 17 years. He was a frequent tenor soloist at weddings, including his own, and at funerals.
He loved his family especially his granddaughter and 3 grandsons.
Herb was proud to be from Jamestown where he knew so many people and enjoyed chatting with each of them.
He loved to attend and watch New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills games as well as attend his sons' music and sporting events.
Herb was a member of the Zion Covenant Church in Jamestown where he sang in the choir and served on several committees. Other memberships include the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Thule Lodge and Rotary. He served on the boards of Evergreen Cemetery Association, Lutheran Social Services, and Covenant Manor.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, the former Lois Anderson, whom he married May 23, 1970, two sons Ron Larson of Dover, NH and Scott (Claire) Larson of NYC, four grandchildren Erik, Benjamin, Joshua, and Penelope Larson as well as a brother Alvin Larson of Sinclairville and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Signe Larkin and two brothers Gunnar and Richard Larson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Zion Covenant Church in Jamestown. Rev. Steve Kilburn will officiate. Inurnment will be in Lake View Cemetery in Jamestown.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home in Jamestown.
