Obituary of Merritt H. Jobe, Jr.

Merritt H. Jobe, Jr., 75, formerly of Lakewood, NY, died Friday, November 13, 2015 at the Lutheran Retirement Home. A lifelong area resident, he was born December 12, 1939 in Jamestown, the son of the late Merritt H. and Rose Smith Jobe, Sr., and was a graduate of Jamestown High School. Merritt had been employed as a salesman by the former Zayre Department Store and for many years as a bartender at the Beechwood Country House in Lakewood. He was also a volunteer for the Adult Day Care Center at Christ First United Methodist Church, as well as Reg Lenna Civic Center fund raising. He belonged to Sacred Heart Church in Lakewood. Merritt loved music and enjoyed singing at weddings, parties and more recently at the Lutheran Home. Surviving are two sisters, Harriett A. (John) Schauers and Eleanor M. Gregory (Warren Blankenship), both of Lakewood; and many nieces and nephews, including Anita (Sid) Hotchkiss of Centerville, PA, Burdette (Laurie) Gregory of Sugar Grove, PA, Catherine (Russell) Haight of Bear Lake, PA and Darin (Cindy) Gregory of Sugar Grove. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, Chaplain of the Lutheran Retirement Home, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received for two hours prior to the service, from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
