Obituary of Harold M. Weinstein
Harold M. "Bud" Weinstein, 79, of 35 E. Terrace Ave., Lakewood, formerly of 82 Pleasantview Drive in Jamestown, died Friday, February 5, 2016 in WCA Hospital.
He leaves behind his wife and best friend of 59 years, Sara Holtzman Weinstein, whom he married June 16, 1957.
Bud was born May 30, 1936 in Jamestown, a son of the late Ezra and Helen Anderson Weinstein. He graduated in 1954 from the Manlius Military Academy and attended the University of Illinois. Bud also served in the New York National Guard.
The president of Weinstein Co. for many years following his father, Bud was a member of Moonbrook Country Club and had been a member of Temple Hesed Abraham.
Bud enjoyed walleye fishing on Lake Erie and salmon fishing on Lake Ontario aboard his boat, "Scrappy Pappy". He also enjoyed golfing and was a devoted fan of the NY Yankees and Buffalo Sabres. He was a hard working, generous and respected mentor to so many over the years, and his employees were family to him. Bud passed down his passion, knowledge of the scrap metal processing industry and work ethic to his sons and grandsons. Paul and Rick had the opportunity to work alongside him for many years and will be forever honored to have learned from him – his legacy will live on in all that they do. Harold "Bud" Weinstein, also known as 'Gramps' to family and 'extended' family, will live on in so many of those he left behind.
In addition to his wife, Sara, surviving are three children: Michael Weinstein, Barbara (Daniel) Drake and Paul (Kathleen) Weinstein and a niece, Robin (Mark) Krpan; a brother, Daniel (Jonolyn) Weinstein; ten grandchildren: Rachel Betts, Joshua and Andrew Weinstein, Phillip and Zachary Drake, Eric (Natalie) Kress, David, MacKenzie and Noah Weinstein, and Dylan Krpan; four great-grandchildren: Hailey and Emma Betts, and Kylie and Gavin Kress; and several nieces.
A private family service will be held. Visitation will not be observed.
The family requests memorials be made to the St. Susan Center, P.O. Box 1276, Jamestown, NY 14702-1276; or to a charity of choice.
