Obituary of Pauline J. Bouckhuyt

Pauline J. Bouckhuyt, 87, of 18 West Terrace Ave. Lakewood, NY, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, went to be with the Lord and her beloved husband, George, at 9:20 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2016, in her home. A lifelong are resident, she was born August 9, 1928 in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late Henry and Grace Card Johnson. Pauline was a graduate of Chautauqua High School in 1945 and graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo in 1949. She went on to teach in the Jamestown Public School System, at Fairmount School, from 1949-1951. Pauline was an active member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, the Lakewood Memorial Library, the Lakewood Women's Club and served as a board member for Lutheran Social Services for 30 years. Pauline and George loved their time together living near Chautauqua Lake, spending summers swimming and sailing and winters skiing. Their second home in the Florida Keys always brought family and friends together creating long lasting memories. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Bouckhuyt, whom she married January 5, 1952 in Chautauqua Institution and a brother Lewis H. Johnson. She is survived by those who will miss her dearly: her children, Mark (Karen) Bouckhuyt, David Bouckhuyt, Martha (Doug) Peterson, her grandchildren, Jules (Jennifer) Bouckhuyt, Jill (Stewart) Rickard, Troy (Jiliane) Bouckhuyt, Matthew (Shawna) Bouckhuyt, Erik Peterson, Sarah Peterson, her great grandchildren, Michael and Blake Simmons, Jaelyn and Kaylie Bouckhuyt, Cody and Georgia Rickard, Kyler Wojtowicz, Kendal and Kolton Bouckhuyt, Cora Belle and Lydia Grace Bouckhuyt. Pauline's children wish to express their gratitude and appreciation to Hospice Chautauqua County, especially Lucy and Carna, for their support and compassionate care given to their mother. They are also very grateful for the love and friendship of Pauline's Packard Estate neighbors. A celebration of Pauline's life will be held at a later date and time to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
