Obituary of Jane F. Carlson

Jane F. Carlson, 93, formerly of Ashville, NY, passed away August 18, 2016, in Rochester, NY. Jane was born September 7, 1922 in Jamestown, NY, the daughter of the late A. Joseph and Priscilla Armstrong Fairbank, Sr. She was a 1940 graduate of Lakewood High School and a 1944 graduate of Buffalo State Teachers College with a bachelor of science degree in home economics. She held the position of home economics teacher at Clymer Central School, Clymer, NY and at Livonia Central School, Livonia, NY. After her children were all attending school, she was a substitute home economics teacher at Panama Central School, Panama, NY. Jane treasured her role as homemaker and mother. She was an avid seamstress, sewing dresses for her daughters and teaching them to sew, taking additional classes and tackling window treatments and tailoring. Later in life, she joined a quilting group with the Harmony Historical Society and enjoyed learning and perfecting a new skill, which quickly became a passionate interest. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Chiama; her children, Beth Holmquist (Bruce), Cynthia Carlson (Terry Davis) and Christine Ross (Donald); her grandchildren, Paul Stuart Holmquist (Kristina Fluty), Taylor Stuart Ross, Kelsey Jane Ross; and her great-grandson, Gus Carlson Holmquist. In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Stuart L. Carlson; her brother, A. Joseph Fairbank, Jr.; and her sister, Barbara F. Carlson. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
