Obituary of Joseph J. Mangano Sr.
Joseph J. Mangano, Sr., 85, formerly of 47 Woodworth Avenue, Jamestown, died Tuesday February 28, 2017, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing.
A native of Buffalo, he was born January 15, 1932, a son of the late Leonard and Frances Mangano.
He was a 1950 graduate of Canisius High School and attended University at Buffalo.
He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Germany from 1953-55.
Prior to his retirement in 1990, he was employed as a sales representative for Bristol Laboratories. He earlier had worked for Pfizer Lab, National Drug, Pittsburgh Paint and Glass and Bethlehem Steel. As a side job he was a wedding photographer of over 1000 weddings.
Joe was a past exalted ruler of the Elks Lodge, past president of Club Associates and past president of Celoron Rod and Gun Club. He was also a member of Lakewood Rod and Gun Club.
He loved to shoot, fish and play guitar.
Surviving are his wife of almost 40 years Claudia George Mangano, whom he married July 9, 1977; four children Kathryn (Frank) DiGennaro and Beth (Stanley) Czaplicki; Joseph (Sue) Mangano, Jr. and James Mangano; three step children Beverly (Joe) DeMarco, Robert (Marcia) Cusimano and Joseph (Jeanne) Cusimano; nineteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren; a sister Tina Maisano; two nieces and two nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by an infant sister Elisabeth Mangano and a brother in law Sam Maisano.
Joe's family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Heritage Park for the wonderful care he received.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Apostles Parish Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Dennis W. Mende will be celebrant.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-5 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 1:45 p.m. Sunday.
