Obituary of Matthew Sean Berlin

Matthew Sean Berlin, 33, formerly of Jamestown, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at his home in Charlotte, NC. He was born March 5, 1984 in Far Rockaway, NY, a twin son of Douglas and Maureen Phelan Berlin. He was a 2002 graduate of Jamestown High School and later received his B.S. degree from the State University of New York at Cortland. Matt was a physical education teacher at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Metro School working with special needs children. He also enjoyed coaching middle school soccer. In addition to his parents of Jamestown, Matt is survived by his twin brother, Mickey (Nicole) Berlin and their son, Bryson Parenti of Lakewood, NY; and a sister, Erin (Andy) Berlin and their son, Jacob Berlin of Girard, Pa.; as well as his extended family and friends who he loved so dearly. Matt was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William and Rose Phelan; paternal grandparents, Albert and Mae Berlin; and his aunt, Linda Berlin. The grief over Matt's sudden passing cannot be expressed in words as his impact was felt by all who knew him. His loving heart was on display daily in the career path he chose and the impact he had on the lives of the children under his charge. Those who were close to Matt were always amazed by his fierce loyalty to his friends and family. He never turned his back on a friend and that devotion was returned in kind. We were all so very proud of Matt and his loss is immeasurable. Be at peace, sweet boy, we love you always. T3T A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced. Visitation will not be observed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Metro School, 405 South Davidson St., Charlotte, NC 28202 (please write Matt's name in the memo).
