Obituary of Edwin R. Golus
Edwin Richard (Richie) Golus, 90, of Lakewood, NY entered into eternal peace with our Lord on November 9, 2017. He passed away at home with his loving wife by his side.
He was born on February 4, 1927, the son of the late Joseph and Edna Seremet Golus. He grew up in Lawrence, MA with a childhood rich in Polish tradition.
A Naval Veteran of World War II, he served as a Mustang Ensign on the USS Spangler DE-696. Following his military service, he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1950. He found a lifelong career with General Electric until his retirement in 1987. Along with his wife Carole, he was proprietor of Lakewood Antiques in Westfield, NY. He was also a long term member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club.
He will always be remembered for his passion for antique cars. He had the pleasure of owning two antique Rolls Royces, a Franklin and a Durant. He was always tinkering on motor vehicles and other mechanical objects in his spare time. In his retirement years, his wife and he travelled the country in search of antique furnishings and décor for their shop and home. Going to auctions on the Eastern shoreline, particularly Maine was a favorite activity that he enjoyed with Carole. Every antique object they purchased along the way had a very colorful story behind it. Ed had an amazing memory, and could recount events from his childhood and later years with such intricate detail, to the point where the listener could actually envision the event. His fascinating stories about his life, along with his many jokes will be truly missed.
He leaves behind his loving wife Carole Golus; a sister Eleanor Majewski; his children Paula Golus, Richard (Pam) Golus, Daniel (Christine) Golus, Robert (Patricia) Golus, Audrey (Robert) Hannah, Cynthia (Mark Vrahas) Golus, Eugene ( Wesley Reiss, D.O.) Golus, Susan Golus, Edward Golus, Julie (Frank Rich) Rivers and Thomas (Kim Card) Phillips; a close family member Martha Andrews ; along with many nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Alberta Mary Andrukaitis; a brother Eugene Golus and his wife Olga Golus; a brother-in-law Charles Majewski; and a son-in-law Sam Carson.
Ed's final request was to have a private memorial service to be held for family members at a later date. Therefore there will be no visitation hours scheduled.
If you wish to make a memorial contribution, please make your contribution in Ed's name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
