Joan Warner really made a life-long impact on me as a teacher. I was just searching for information about her online and found this obituary, and I'm so sorry to hear she has departed. She was a delightful, warm, intelligent person, and though I haven't seen her since the late 80s, I can still easily imagine her smile. Best wishes to friends and family.

I just heard about Joan's passing and am so sorry the world has lost another special person. I taught English with Joan several decades at Jefferson and Jamestown High School. She was always a smiling "breath of fresh air".

Joan (or Miss Carlin, as I still think of her) was one of the best teachers I ever had. Back in 8th grade at Jefferson Jr High I used to look forward to going to her class which was always interesting, fun, and inspiring. The following year i was part of the "Jefferson Jag-Wire" newspaper staff, that she sponsored. Putting together those newspaper issues with her guidance are still some of my best memories. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. She was a truly inspiring teacher and good friend, and will be sorely missed by myself and the other Jefferson "kids". Michael Trippi

Joan was one of those special souls blessed with intelligence, humor and kindness. She was head of the English Department when I taught at JHS, and she was a wise administrator and the most encouraging mentor. My condolences to her family.

Julie and I were so saddened and surprised to hear of Joan’s passing today. We hadn’t realized she was ill. What a shock.
Joan came to Jamestown High School at about the same time I did. We worked together through our careers at the high school and we were always good friends. Whether she was a fellow English teacher or a Department chair, her advice was sound and she always knew just what she was doing. Her students and her staff appreciated her good work. She was kind and caring. She was always a fine friend.
You have our deepest condolences and we wish you well at what must be a very difficult time.
Your friends,
Hank and Julie Danielson,

My sympathy and condolences to Joan’s family, students, colleagues and friends. You were all very lucky to share your lives with such a warm, friendly and funny woman. She was one of my “besties” in high school at Villa Maria Academy and always made me smile and laugh. We shared a pride in our Irish heritage, especially as shown through the devilish sense of humor of her dad and my grandfather. I will keep her in my heart always.

I am Joan's first cousin, as her and my mothers were sisters. My entire childhood was spent with Joan on every important occasion and holiday. She was even as a kid an extraordinary presence. She provided guidance and stability to me as I was growing to be an adult through what for me was a difficult time.
I was lucky enough to visit Joan last week and found her as ever enormously positive and vibrant. Her adoration of Ray and her family resonated through our visit. I felt privileged to see her for a last time.
My condolences to family and friends.
God Speed.

Ray and Family—I am so sad to hear of Joan’s death. She was my friend through grade school, high school and beyond. Even though we only saw each other a couple of times a year we always picked up as though no time had passed. Joan was smart, funny, principled, and strong in her beliefs. I often told her she was my hero in the way she dealt with her health issues with such strength and bravery. Luckily I saw her about a month ago at lunch with some other Villa girls. Rest well, my friend—I will miss you. Ellen Pfadt
