Obituary of Joan C. Warner

Joan Carlin Warner, 70, of Ashville, NY, passed peacefully in her home surrounded by the love of her family in the early morning hours of September 9, 2018. She was born August 17, 1948 in Erie, PA to the late Thomas and Gertrude Carson Carlin & married to Raymond E. Warner, January 19, 1979. After graduating from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, Joan spent her teaching career in the Jamestown Public School System as an English teacher in Middle and High School. Joan earned her Master's Degree in Language Arts Administration and she concluded her career as the Coordinator of English Language Arts for the Jamestown School System after 35 years of service. Joan was an avid golfer & played in leagues throughout the area. She loved the outdoors, had beautiful gardens, loved to play in the woods on her John Deere Tractor & spent winter months in Florida fishing and exploring with Ray. She made wine and enjoyed hosting uncorking parties to sample her libations. Joan was a former member of S.O.L.E. and she and Ray were volunteers for the Chautauqua County Meals on Wheels program. Joan's greatest love was spending time with Ray, their family & their beagle Mortimer. She is survived by her husband Ray; brother Mike (Anne) Carlin of Hendersonville, NC; children Mark (Lynn) Warner of Jamestown, NY; Lori (Brian) Kooken of Ashville, NY & Amy Delcamp (Andy Benton) of Jamestown, NY; Grandchildren Ed (Demi) Nelson of Panama, NY; Jennifer (Justin) Litzinger of Lakewood, NY; Kelly Stevens (Josh Bennett) of Panama, NY; Justin (Charly) Fellion of Lakewood, NY; Alisen (Erik) Hazzard of Redwood City, CA; Brett (Carolyn) Warner of Bradenton, FL & Andrew Delcamp of Jamestown, NY; Great Grandchildren Jordan Nelson, Brandon Hirsch, Maisie Hazzard & Carlin Nelson. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Warner and a great grandchild, Kristoff Hirsch. The family would like to thank Sarah & Tim Cook for their love and support & the special friendship they and their children had with Joan. Words written to Joan upon her retirement by her friend and colleague Judith Guile perfectly sum up the person she was: "You have that gift of total conversational regard, coupled with hearing beyond the words to the emotions and intent of the person you are talking to. You remind me always to stop and hear before I judge. You re-taught me the value of personal regard and forced me to add the feeling part to my thinking. Some days I wondered if I should have made a greater effort to kiss the Blarney Stone in my world travels if it would give me the gift you have." The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel W. Cook, retired pastor of the Lakewood Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and for one hour prior to the service on Thursday in the funeral home.
